BSN Nursing Application Checklist

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has an application portal for students to apply to the nursing program. Detailed instructions on how to submit your application is provided on the welcome page of the application portal.
To access the College of Nursing and Health Sciences application portal, students must use their MyVSU username and password. For applicants who are not current or former Valdosta State University students, a MyVSU username and password will be provided once accepted to Valdosta State University. Please do not procrastinate in applying to Valdosta State University.
Students will find out their acceptance status for the BSN program 8 to 10 weeks after the application deadline.
The HESI Admission Assessment Exam is required for admission to the Valdosta State University nursing programs. The HESI Admission Assessment is offered by through VSU’s Office of Testing. It is also available through the HESI Distance Testing Program and is administered at . If you would like more information about HESI Distance Testing, please email testing@valdosta.edu.
To be eligible for admission into the VSU nursing programs, students must earn a 75 or higher in the following areas:
Reading Comprehension
Vocabulary
Grammar
Anatomy & Physiology
Math
NOTE: Students may take the test twice (2 times) per application cycle. Only scores <1 year old will be considered. Only the two most recent scores will be super scored. You can take the HESI by appointment through the University Testing Center. For more information regarding the use of the HESI by the VSU, please contact the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Advising Center.

For active duty military applicants, please contact Mr. Leo Melody (lcmelody@valdosta.edu) in the Adult and Military Programs Office regarding applying to Valdosta State University.
A student identification number will be needed as a component of the application process for the BSN program. A student identification number is provided upon applying to the University.
If you were previously enrolled in a nursing program within the last five years, you must submit a petition to the School of Nursing Admissions and Progressions Committee for permission to apply to the BSN program. When completing the petition, include the following where appropriate:
- Student classification: Pre-nursing
- Petition type: Other: Permission to Apply to the BSN program
Complete the Student Petition Form and email to conhsadvising@valdosta.edu.
In addition to a student petition form, a letter of good standing is needed from the nursing school you were previously enrolled in. Please include official copies of your academic transcript as well.

All core classes must be completed prior to the start of the BSN program.
Students must work with an academic advisor to complete a plan in Degree Works showing all pre-requisite courses in Areas A-F will be completed by the time they would begin their cohort if accepted.
5 Year Rule
Courses in Area F older than 5 years at the application deadline must be retaken. The following courses are in Area F.
BIOL 2251K (Anatomy and Physiology I)

NURS 2700 (Pathophysiology)
PSYC 2103 (Intro to Human Development)
Courses in Area D.2.Bolder than 5 years at the application deadline must be retaken. The following courses are in Area D.2.B.

Repeat Policy
Minimum of “C” in each math and science course in Areas D.2.B and F. If a D or F is earned in any Area D.2.B or F course(s) it must be replaced with a C or better prior to application. Note: Only the C or better grade will be used when calculating the Nursing GPA. All attempts will be used when calculating overall GPA. The courses in Areas D.2.B and F are:

Option 1: Apply to Valdosta State University Undergraduate Admissions Office ($40 application fee). Send official transcripts to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Once you receive your acceptance letter, email the CONHS Advising Center (conhsadvising@valdosta.edu) requesting a transcript evaluation. Please include your name and student identification number in the email.
For active duty military applicants, please contact the Adult and Military Programs Office regarding applying to the University.
The admission requirements are a 2.8 overall grade point average and a 3.0 nursing certification grade point average. The overall grade point average includes attempts of all college classes completed. The nursing certification grade point average only includes classes in Areas A, D.2.B, and F, with only the highest attempt of each included.
If you repeated courses in Areas A, D.2.B, and F, then please ensure you list only the highest attempt for the course to accurately calculate the nursing certification GPA.
All State of Georgia Legislative Requirements must be satisfied either by exam or course credit prior to enrolling in the nursing program.

For U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine military personnel interested in pursuing the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP), please contact the CONHS Advising Center to schedule a pre-application review appointment. We will discuss program admission requirements and application deadlines during this appointment. Potential students will also need to submit a leave earning statement to verify military status. Please submit your leave earning statement to the CONHS Advising Center (conhsadvising@valdosta.edu).

MECP applicants must submit an application for the nursing program through the Nursing and Health Sciences Application Portal by the appropriate deadline listed at the top of this page.
