SCHOOL OF NURSING
A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to a student enrolled full-time in the Social Work program who is a resident of Lowndes County, Georgia or a county that is contiguous to Lowndes County; and a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to a student enrolled full-time in the School of Nursing Second Degree program who is a resident of Lowndes County, Georgia or a county that is contiguous to Lowndes County.  The scholarships will be paid in installments of $1,250 in the fall semester and $1,250 in the spring semester of the academic year for which the students are enrolled.  The recipients of each scholarship must perform 10 hours of community service during each semester the scholarship is received.  The community service to be performed will be selected in consultation with McLane Funeral Services and could include, but is not limited to, service to faith-based organizations.  Pre-approved local organizations for community service hours are:  The Haven, LAMP, Second Harvest, and Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club, Pregnancy Support Clinic, Churches, Community Soup Kitchen, South Georgia Medical Center, Red Cross, American Cancer Society.  At the conclusion of the community service each semester the recipient should submit a brief recap of their activities to the donor.  The scholarship recipients will be selected by the faculty of the Social Work program and the School of Nursing respectively.  Each fall semester, a representative of McLane Funeral Services will be invited to an awarding of each scholarship and Valdosta State University will publicize the scholarship awards.

The application deadline for this award is June 28.

Additional Requirements for all recipients (In addition to the criteria above)

  1. Recipient must possess and maintain a 3.0 GPA
  2. Recipient must participate in one Open House/Campus tours or recruitment events in the semester the award is received.
