Minor in Art
- Total Credit Hours: 15
- Degree Format: Traditional
About this field
Artists have an eye for beauty, a vision for creativity and a knack for originality and use these skills and others to create commercial or fine art pieces in various mediums. Art students at Valdosta State University build their portfolios while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in art-related fields or to continue their studies at the graduate level.
The Valdosta State Difference
Students in the Valdosta State Department of Art & Design enjoy small classes and receive one-on-one attention from faculty. Art students have access to 11 studio areas around the college and have the opportunity to display their work on campus in the VSU Fine Arts Gallery. Annual events such as the Open Student Competition and Senior Exhibit give students additional opportunities to display their work to the Valdosta State community. Students may broaden their horizons by participating in the department’s study abroad program in Florence, Italy, where they take courses in art history and drawing and see great works of art in person. All art students are invited to participate in Kappa Pi, an organization dedicated to promoting artistic excellence at the college level and beyond.
What You'll Learn
The minor program is for students interested in art or art history who are pursuing a different major degree program. Students must take 15 semester hours of coursework to complete the art minor.
