Patricia Hinton
Part-Time Instructor
Dr. Patricia Marker Hinton has been affiliated with Valdosta State University since 2008. She was an instructor in the Political Science Department until retiring in 2012 and since then has been an adjunct instructor in the Public Administration and Organizational Leadership programs. While at Valdosta State, Hinton was also the Military Outreach Group Liaison in the Adult Degree-Completion and Military Programs (AMP) and involved in development of the Organizational Leadership online degree.
Hinton earned a Mass Communications degree from Florida State University and master’s and doctorate degrees in Public Administration from Valdosta State University. Prior to joining VSU, she was Executive Director of College Advancement for North Florida College. Her career experience includes executive leadership positions in the nonprofit sector, the media, and public relations.
A resident of rural north Florida, Hinton researches and writes on the American Revolution, specializing in its military aspects. In 2017 she published Tracking a South Carolina Patriot: Nicholas Prince and the Revolutionary War. Recently she and her brother, a genealogist, established the African-American Revolutionary Soldiers Honor Project, which identifies and pays tribute to previously unknown free men of color who fought in the American Revolution.
