Brazilian dance artist Caroline Gonsalves Bertho explores teaching and choreographing processes that foster individuality while building community through a social dance lens. Carol received a Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) and a BA in Dance from the State University of Campinas - Unicamp (BRA). She has Classical Ballet training from the Royal Academy of Dance Technic (BRA) and studied Hip Hop dance at “The H+ Hip Hop Dance Conservatory” (NY) and 36 Chambaz Of Stylz (NY). Her dancing background includes Ballet, Jazz, Tap, American and Brazilian Urban social dances, and Modern/Contemporary dance. She has been dedicated to studying and teaching Hip Hop dance for the past thirteen years, mainly working with the Brazilian community project “Grupo Performance de Rua” (BRA), a non-profit Hip-Hop dance collective that produces shows, festivals, and promotes Hip Hop culture events. Her career combines experiences as a dancer and choreographer-director of concerts, commercial dances, and competitions; a teacher in dance studios, community centers, and cultural institutions; and a producer of festivals, shows, and dance films.
